Singapore Flyer appoints General Manager to open Asia’s most iconic giant observation wheel

SINGAPORE, 5 June 2007 - Singapore Flyer has appointed Mr. David Beevers as General Manager as of 24th May 2007.  David left his previous position as Senior Director – Business Operations of Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre to take part in the Clipper 05-06 Round the World Yacht Race as one of the crew of the Uniquely Singapore yacht. After finishing in a credible 5th Place in the race around the world, the Singapore Permanent Resident has returned to Singapore to take up the helm of the Singapore Flyer, which is poised to become one of Asia’s most iconic structures and a must-visit Tourism Destination.

A seasoned leisure & hospitality industry professional, David has lived and worked in the Middle East and Asia for the past 27 years in a number of senior management positions in United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Australia and the last 10 years in Singapore.

David is delighted to be joining the Singapore Flyer. In his words, “Singapore is my home and has been for many years. I am a Permanent Resident here and I am looking forward to the opening of the Singapore Flyer in February 2008. After several years at Suntec Singapore and most recently, being a part of the Government’s initiative to promote Singapore as a business and tourism destination with its’ participation in the Clipper Round The World Race, I am extremely excited to be part of the Singapore Flyer and again be in a position to further promote Singapore as a compelling destination to the world.

This is one of the most exciting upcoming tourist attractions for Singapore and I’m certain that it will be a tremendous addition to the many places of interests that Singapore currently offers. Our positioning is that the Singapore Flyer is a unique venue in the sky not only for overseas visitors but also for Singaporeans alike. And most importantly, delivering to all visitors and guests, a moving experience at every turn” with mesmerizing sights and breathtaking views in the skies,” said David.

Singapore Flyer welcomes David Beevers onboard and looks forward to his valuable leadership as pre-opening activities proceed towards our opening in February 2008.

About The Singapore Flyer

When completed in February 2008, the Singapore Flyer will be one of the Asia’s most iconic attractions. Standing at a height of 165 meters, it sits astride a three story terminal building.

There will be 28 fully air-conditioned capsules, each capable of handling 28 passengers at one time. Passengers will enjoy a 30 minute journey which will include 45 km panoramic views of Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. It is expected to attract 2.5 million visitors in the first year with more than half of them from overseas.

The Singapore Flyer will also offer an array of public facilities including a central atrium with a recreated Asian rainforest, an outdoor amphitheatre, an alfresco dining promenade running along the seafront, and highly accessible by train, bus, car and even boat.
