Watch and Listen to the Singapore Story Only at Singapore Flyer
SINGAPORE, 16 October 2008 – Watch and Listen to the Singapore story only at Singapore Flyer.
Visitors to Singapore Flyer can now not only view the best of Singapore, but also listen to her story aboard the Lion City’s icon, the Singapore Flyer.
With the launch of a new portable in-flight audio guide available to all Singapore Flyer ticket holders, visitors can enjoy a more vivid and multi-sensory experience as they take in the 360-degree panoramic views of the Singapore cityscape atop the 165-metre-tall Flyer.
Featuring the voice of Singapore’s famed movie and theatre thespian Lim Kay Tong, the audio guide brings the visitor through a journey of the past, present and future of Singapore – from where Sang Nila Utama first arrived, to interesting feng shui trivia of Suntec City and the future Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort – in just 30 minutes on-board the Flyer, as visitors see, hear and discover the ever-changing Singapore story. “We want visitors to Singapore Flyer to take in the best of Singapore with not just their eyes, but also to gain a deeper understanding of the Lion City’s history and story with the launch of this new audio guide. This adds colour to their experience through Singapore’s past, present and future on board the world’s largest Giant Observation Wheel,” said Mr Florian Bollen, Chairman, Singapore Flyer Pte Ltd.
A 12-metre-long by 4-metre-tall model of the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort installed at the roof deck of Singapore Flyer’s Terminal Building ‘rising’ above the existing Singapore city skyline draws the flight to an end, like “the completion of a perfect movie”, Mr Bollen added.
Further enhancing visitors’ experience at the Flyer is the introduction of the river taxi as a permanent fixture for visitors, after the roaring success of the service which was introduced to help the public cope with the extensive Formula 1™ road closures.
10,000 people, including reigning Miss Universe, Miss Dayana Mendoza from Venezuela, enjoyed the novel and convenient mode of transport to get to the Flyer during the Formula 1™ period. Miss Mendoza blogged about her experience, where she enthused about the “nice boat ride” and the “panoramic view” from the Flyer which she found “incredibly amazing”.
Due to the huge popularity of the river taxi service, the Flyer has extended the service for its guests to enjoy a scenic cruise along the historical Singapore River – lined with colonial architecture that bear the imprints of the country’s humble beginnings – and be treated to the present-day sights and sounds of this Free River Cruise to Singapore Flyer bustling city-state. Two operators will run the river taxi service: Singapore River Cruises & Leisure and DUCKtours (See Annex; Terms & Conditions apply)
Singapore River Cruises & Leisure’s 45-seater river taxi will ply between two pick-up/drop-off points: Merlion Park and Singapore Flyer. Only visitors who buy a Singapore Flyer ticket from the operator at Merlion Park can redeem a free one-time, one-way trip from Merlion Park to the Flyer on the same day of their flight. The service runs hourly from 5pm to 9pm on week days, and hourly from 3pm to 9pm on weekends and public holidays (9pm is the last shuttle).
The DUCKtours 56-seater river taxi will ply between Clarke Quay and Singapore Flyer. Visitors with a Singapore Flyer ticket can enjoy a free one-time, one-way trip from Clarke Quay to the Flyer, valid only on the same day of the flight.
“This is great news for a non-driver like me,” said Mr Lim Wei Kwang, 25, who took the river taxi service from Clarke Quay to the Flyer, to get to the Formula 1™ race circuit park during the road closures.
“Now that there are more pick-up points available and with the new access point at Merlion Park, I can take an MRT ride to Raffles Place and walk to Merlion Park to board the river taxi to Singapore Flyer. With the increasing prices in petrol and taxi fares, this river taxi service is a very convenient and useful mode of transport for the public to enjoy,” he added.
Mr Bollen said: “We are always looking for ways to enhance our visitors’ experience. The launch of the audio guide as well as the river taxi reflects our commitment to ensure that our visitors enjoy the best possible time at the Singapore Flyer.”
